THE ASSOCIATION

Created in 2006 in Geneva by Patricia Defauw, J’aime ma Planète is a not-for-profit association with public utility status committed to the protection of the environment and the transition towards a sustainable lifestyle. It is active in the fields of environmental education (EE) and education for sustainable development (ESD) and runs programmes and activities in schools to raise awareness among the leaders of tomorrow. Since 2015, J’aime ma Planète has been the national representative for Switzerland of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). FEE is the world’s largest environmental education organisation, with members in 77 countries.

OUR VISION

We imagine an inclusive society in which everyone can develop their full potential and become an active “citizen of the world”, ready to take up the challenges of our society for a sustainable future.

OUR MISSION

Through our educational and awareness-raising projects, we strive to generate greater awareness of environmental issues, to support the transition towards a sustainable society which is respectful of the planet and its inhabitants, and to contribute to delivering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030

OUR GOALS

  • Create a strong relationship with nature and all forms of life from an early age.

  • Promote a sustainable way of life based on respect for oneself, for others and for the environment.

  • Help students to develop the skills needed for sustainable development and the motivation to take action.

  • Support schools in running projects in education for sustainable development.

OUR TARGET GROUP

  • Main target group: Young people aged 6 to 25

  • Secondary target group: The adults accompanying them (parents, teachers, school management, etc.)

OUR ACTIVITIES

The Educational Activities department provides workshops in schools, outdoor learning activities and film projects on sustainability themes. Through its partnership with Yann Arthus-Bertrand‘s GoodPlanet Foundation, the department organises educational exhibitions on selected themes (biodiversity, forests, sustainable food, water) in schools and municipalities, accompanied by workshops on these themes.

The FEE department runs two different FEE programmes in Switzerland:

    • The Eco-Schools programme, which is the largest international programme in education for sustainable development (ESD).

  • Young Reporters for the Environment which is an annual, national and international programme and competition that gives young people aged 11 to 25 the opportunity to research and take action on sustainable development issues they feel strongly about through investigative reporting, photography and video journalism.

These two programmes are recognised by UNESCO and the UNEP.

OUR EDUCATIONAL APPROACH

Our educational approach strives for a holistic and transformative learning process that allows for the development of cognitive, transdisciplinary, social and emotional skills. Our activities place the student at the heart of a continuous learning process that is based on the love of nature and an understanding of sustainable development and that follows the learning matrix outlined below:

We understand…

…the interrelations and interdependencies between human beings and their natural environment.

…the challenges of sustainable development and of the world around us.

We want to…

…protect the planet and its inhabitants.

…contribute to building a sustainable world.
.
.
.
.
.

We can…

…think differently.

…form our own opinion.

…identify our spheres of influence and levels of action.

…imagine and experiment with new solutions.

We take action…

…here and now.

…to adopt new individual and collective attitudes.

OUR VALUES

◊ Strong sustainability

We believe that human activities should be maintained within the regenerative capacity of the biosphere.

◊ Respect and interdependencies

We are all interdependent. Respect for oneself, for others and for all forms of life allows us to recognise the intrinsic value of everyone and leads us to live better together.

◊ Humility and quality

We do not have all the answers to the complex questions of sustainable development but we always seek to act with accuracy and quality in mind.

We endeavour to stay at the forefront of knowledge in education for sustainable development and strive for continuous improvement.

◊ Diversity, inclusion and collaboration

Diversity is precious; we seek to build on the strengths of everyone.

We seek to form ties and find synergies with our educational partners and with other actors for sustainable development.

◊ The power of emotions and positivity for personal transformation

We are convinced that emotions prepare for action and that positive messages and attitudes foster the motivation and the desire to act.

We are aiming for a transformative, continuous learning process.

◊ Empowerment and free will

We seek to help the children and young people we work with to be active participants in their learning experience: “To do is to learn!”.

We strongly believe in each individual’s free will and do not seek to convince but rather to support everyone on their individual learning path and to allow them to take informed decisions on their actions.

◊ Impact

We seek in all our activities to have an impact, and are committed to ensuring that the funds entrusted to us are used in the best possible way.
